Club members have called for a motion of censure against Bartomeu and the board, but the club said on Monday it can’t hold the vote until officials authorize it amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Bartomeu claims that the Argentine superstar is untouchable and non-transferable. The 57-year-old also listed the players who will not be put for sale in the transfer window this season.
Bartomeu said in an interview with Barça TV that negotiations with the Dutchman are advanced but that a deal had yet to be signed.
Bartomeu also said the current squad is the best although Barcelona failed to win the LaLiga title with arch-rivals Real Madrid being crowned champions this season.
Earlier, manager Quique Setien had said that Messi has been training well despite speculations surrounding his future.
