A film screening at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) here on the contentious issue of 'love jihad' was disrupted today by a few students' groups, who alleged that a hate campaign was being propagated in the guise of showing the movie.
A complaint was filed on Friday against Ajay Kumar, a faculty member at the university's School of Social Sciences.
The journalist also claimed that when she, along with other media people, confronted Singh about the incident, he "denied (it) saying to my face that I was lying".
In a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner, Press Club Of India, Indian Women's Press Corps, Press Association and Federation of Press Clubs in India said journalists were beaten and molested despite telling police that they are from the media.
According to news agency ANI, police had summoned the professor at 5 pm today to question him in connection with the case. After a brief interrogation, Johri was arrested by the city police.
The students have accused the police of shielding Professor Atul Johri from arrest.
The students raised slogans against the university officials and Delhi Police. A minor scuffle broke out when some of them tried to break the barricades put up by the police.
The agitating students gathered in large numbers outside the police station in southwest Delhi, have been protesting for many days demanding arrest of accused professor Atul Johri.
A group of nine students have been protesting against the professor for the past days in the campus.
The matter came to light after her family lodged a complaint on March 12 at the Vasant Kunj police station, police said.
The statement issued by the university administration alleges that some odd 15 protest students barged into the Dean's office during a meeting with representatives of JNUSU and became violent.
