Karnataka, with its 28 Lok Sabha seats, remains a crucial battleground in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The southern state will go to polls in two phases, April 26 and May 7.
Mandya Lok Sabha Election 2024: Congress leader MK Shivananjappa represented the Mandya constituency four times in a row in 1952, 1957, 1962 and 1967. Sumalatha, popular actor Ambareesh's wife, won the seat in 2019 as an independent candidate backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The BJP and JDS are contesting in alliance with each other in the Lok Sabha elections. The NDA is likely to sweep Karnataka, as per India TV-CNX Opinion Poll.
Hassan Lok Sabha Election 2024: Prajwal Revanna, the Janata Dal-Secular candidate and grandson of former PM HD Deve Gowda, won the constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls by defeating BJP's A Manju. Gowda represented the seat several times including three times in a row in 2004, 2009 and 2014.
Karnataka news: Speaking to media in Bengaluru, he said both parties will take the decisions together. JD(S) formally joined the BJP-led NDA in September 2023 and both parties decided to fight the Lok Sabha polls 2024 together.
Siddaramaiah claimed that many JD(S) MLAs were on the verge of resigning from the party, which prompted its alliance with the BJP.
In a surprise move, the NDA has decided to field additional candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka scheduled on February 27. Kupendra Reddy is a former Rajya Sabha member and a close aide of JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy.
Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's health is being monitored by a team of senior doctors. In January, Gowda said he will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in view of his age.

JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy said that Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda had a discussion for more than 45 minutes on state politics, seat sharing and the issue of alliance.
The JD(S) joined the BJP-led NDA in September last year after a meeting Kumaraswamy, a former Chief Minister and Deve Gowda's son, had with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J P Nadda in New Delhi.
JD(S) said that Chand Mahal Ibrahim has been inactive during his tenure as the chief of party's state unit and didn't contribute anything in strengthening the party.

DK Shivakumar countered JD(S) leader's accusation and said Kumaraswamy’s party is now a partner with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), whereas Congress has no connection with NDA.
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had rejected Deve Gowda's claims and asked the former prime minister to even correct his statement. The JDS patriarch clarified his statement regarding his party's alliance with the BJP in Karnataka.
HD Deve Gowda, a former Prime Minister, on October 19 claimed that all the state units of his party, including- Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Maharashtra, had given their consent for it to align with the BJP and that Vijayan had concurred with the move that would save the JDS.
Ibrahim, a former Union Civil Aviation Minister and a key member of the party, earlier said he would soon convene a meeting of the "core committee" which would meet Gowda to convey the decision taken in the meeting convened by him that the JD(S) should not become an alliance partner of the BJP.
Ibrahim on Monday said that there was no question of him quitting the JD(S) as he was the "real JD(S)". Kumaraswamy hit back at him asking to "put up a board that he is the original one".
