The Jammu and Kashmir government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards anti-national elements who have been taking advantage of being in government service.
The Indian Army has deployed around 500 Para Special Forces commandos in the area to hunt down the 50-55 terrorists from Pakistan who have entered the region to revive terrorism there, said defence sources.
The development has come after two terrorists were killed on Thursday when the security forces foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district.
During his interaction with the soldiers, a discussion was held about using modern weapons and technology and also about giving a free hand to the forces.
The officials said that the encounter started near LoC in the Keran sector of the north Kashmir district. The exchange of firing is going on and further details are awaited.
Security forces including the army, paramilitary forces, and the J-K Police are aggressively fighting terrorists, by destroying their hideouts, and arresting over-ground workers and sympathisers of the terrorists.
The gruesome incident has sent shock waves throughout the district as it involves the fate of girl children at a time when the country is celebrating the birth, education and contribution of women to the development of the country and its democratic institutions.
The Army search party was conducting a search operation to nab terrorists in Kulgam's Modergam village when they opened fire at the convoy. The gunfire took place in the interior areas of the district and not near the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

The J&K government has also appointed two senior officers as nodal officers for the smooth conduct of Amarnath Yatra 2024. The officers shall closely monitor and liaise with all concerned agencies involved in the conduct of holy yatra.
