    Indian Army organized awareness cum demonstration camp on snow avalanches of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on February 08. Army trained the villagers of Boniyar Tehsil with avalanche rescue techniques. Special team of Indian army rescue unit demonstrated live drills in front of the villagers in order to practically teach them. Avalanche unit of Indian army briefed local villagers about the rescue protocols that need to be adhered. They were also informed about the medical facilities required while executing such rescue operations. Usage of various equipments, including chords, beacons, probes, shovels were also demonstrated.

    Indian Army saved a girl from drowning in Jammu and Kashmir's Chenab River. The incident took place in Akhnoor district of J-K. Explaining the incident, the girl said that she was clicking pictures at the Chenab River when her foot slipped. Thanking the Army, she said, "I had gone to visit the Chenab River, and while taking pictures my foot slipped and I tripped inside the river. Army saved me and I am thankful to them. May god bless them with long age because I was able to successfully reach home alive." Victim's family also thanked the Army for safely rescuing their daughter. "I am thankful to the Army that they saved my daughter and took her to the hospital. I am thankful to god and the Army personnel," said victim's father.

    Kashmir's famous Dal Lake froze on Thursday as the cold wave in the valley continued unabated with Srinagar recording the coldest night in at least three decades. The city recorded a low of minus 8.4 degrees celsius, which was the coldest temperature in the region in the city in 30 years, an official of the Meteorological department said. Back in 1995, Srinagar had recorded minus 8.3 degrees celsius. In 1991, the temperature fell to minus 11.3 degrees celsius. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Srinagar was minus 14.4 degrees celsius in 1893.
