The political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have given mixed reactions on the Centre's decision for beginning the process of delimitation of Assembly segments. While the ruling BJP has welcomed the move, most other political parties in the Union Territory have expressed apprehensions.

Rahul Gandhi also alleged that leaders of political parties in Kashmir were jailed at secret locations, which was "unconstitutional and undemocratic", and demanded their immediate release. He said the move was "short-sighted and foolish" as it would allow terrorists to fill up the leadership vacuum created by the central government.
Various parties like the Congress, TMC, DMK, NCP, AAP, RJD and left parties opposed the said resolution as well as a bill to bifurcate the state into two union territories. Opposing the move, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said: "I had never imagined that the head of the state which is India's crown will be chopped off".
The government has also told the state governments that "special care" should be taken of Jammu and Kashmir residents and students residing in their state. The government on Monday abolished Article 370 that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir and moved a separate bill to bifurcate the state into two separate union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
A Selection Committee was set up under Advisor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai to recommend a suitable name for the position, and after "examining the relative merit of each nomination/application", it recommended Masoodi for the position
