The Income Tax Department has detected unaccounted transactions of about Rs 1,500 crore and assets in a tax-haven country after raiding a Mumbai-based group involved in hospitality business and manufacturing of gutka and pan masala, the CBDT said on Monday.
Describing the alleged tax evasion modus operandi deployed by one of the raided entity, a developer and coloniser in Rajasthan's capital Jaipur, the CBDT said "complete details" of unaccounted transactions of this group for the last 6-7 years were "hidden" in the basement of the main business premise.
The raids conducted by the Income Tax department against an Odisha-based group involved in manufacturing and trading of steel products has led to the detection of about Rs 170 crore black income and presence of bogus directors who are actually gullible daily wage earners, the CBDT said on Tuesday.

"Searches are being conducted at the residences and offices of Suresh Babu. They are part of verification of records," sources told PTI.
Cash of approximately Rs 5 crore and jewellery of more than about Rs 3 crore was seized in the action. The search proceedings have been temporarily concluded and investigations into the findings are in progress, the CBDT said.
The Income Tax department Thursday conducted raids on multiple properties of Hilal Rather, the son of former Jammu and Kashmir finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather, in connection with an alleged loan misappropriation and tax evasion case, officials said.

According to sources, at least 10 IT officials raided the places owned by Kanimozhi on Tuesday night. DMK district secretary Geetha Jeevan's residence is also under the IT scanner, sources said.
"The searches being conducted on Tuesday are based on credible intelligence that certain businessmen have earned income not disclosed for tax and are in possession of undisclosed assets," the tax official said in a statement here.
The raids are being conducted in state capital Bangalore, Hassan and Mandya and the department said the action is aimed against tax evaders and blackmoney generators.
The CBDT, in a statement, also clarified that no premise of Guntur TDP MP Jayadev Galla was searched during the operation conducted on Tuesday.
