"While a designated number of saloons will be kept for use of railway officials for inspection, 200 of them will be turned over to IRCTC and will be operated as tourist trains. Upon conversion, around ten such trains can be put into service for public use," the source said.
A delay of more than three hours in the running of Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express on October 19 has cost IRCTC around Rs 1.62 lakh which the railway subsidiary will pay through its insurance companies as compensation to around 950 passengers, a first in the history of Indian Railways, officials said on Monday.
About 451 passengers boarded the train from Lucknow and around 500 people took the train from New Delhi. It is the first time that the passengers of Indian Railways will receive compensation for the delayed journey. All the passengers will compensation of Rs 250 each to passengers by IRCTC.
