An IndiGo Airbus A320neo plane suffered a mid-air engine failure with a "loud bang" on Thursday and the civil aviation ministry has taken serious note of the incident, sources said.
The airline refused to provide accommodations or food, the passengers claimed, adding the IndiGo staff was not at all cooperative.
After it tilted to one side mid-air, the pilot managed to balance the aircraft, a senior DGCA official told PTI.
The flight with 168 passengers on board returned to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, a little over 15 minutes after take-off.
The airline, however, regretted the "inconvenience caused to the passengers", and in a statement attributed the delay to the weather conditions and the change in crew, who had to wait for the departure slots.
Rejecting the claims by Dr Saurabh Rai, IndiGo said that he was offloaded because of “unruly behaviour” and using words like “hijack”.
No injury was reported, and the flight made a normal landing at the Bengaluru airport and all passengers were deplaned as per normal procedure.
