The new recruitment scheme Agnipath was announced on June 14 by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Under this scheme, the youth will be recruited for 4 years and they will be called Agniveer.
Earlier today, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting at his residence with the tri-service chiefs and discussed the rollout of the scheme and ways to pacify agitators. This is the second such meeting called by Rajnath Singh in two days.
As the recruitment process is also open to those below 18 years, the enrolment form will need to be signed by the parents for those aspirants who are below 18 years of age, the IAF notification said.
The initial 18 aircraft will be imported while the next 36 aircraft would be manufactured within the country. The payments would be made partially in foreign as well as Indian currency.
Earlier on Saturday, the IAF had deployed An-32 transport aircraft, two Mi-17 helicopters, a Chinook helicopter and a ALH Dhruv and had evacuated 119 passengers stranded at Ditokchera railway station.
