The Congress has launched an attack on the Union Government over Income Tax raids in Chhattisgarh for the past 4 days and termed it as "Coercive & Insecure Centrism".
The raids at the residence of Congress' KB Koliwad come in the run-up to assembly bypolls in 15 segments in Karnataka following the disqualification of the MLAs from Congress and the JD(S) which led to the toppling of the coalition government and installation of the BJP government led by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.
Informed sources said the team carried out the raids at the offices located in the Old City's Bohri Kadal area and Nowgam in the outskirts of the city. However, the reason for the raids remains unknown.
The Income-Tax Department Friday conducted searches at multiple locations in Tamil Nadu on suspicion of alleged illegal cash being pumped in to lure voters in the poll-bound state and seized cash of about Rs 15 crore, officials said.
Incriminating evidence found during the searches resulted in the defaulters admitting to Rs 109 crore unaccounted income.
Actors Shivarajkumar and Puneeth Rajkumar, sons of Kannada thespian late Rajkumar, and Yash and Sudeep came under the I-T lens.
