There was no rain in the city as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), but it said that minimum temperatures are in the range of 3-6 degrees Celsius at many parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi and at a few places over Punjab and at isolated places over Rajasthan.
Light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rain is expected from January 24 to 27.
Weather update: Many parts of Haryana and Punjab received light rains with the minimum temperatures hovering close to normal limits on Friday, the Meteorological department said.
Cold Wave: The IMD said that they are waiting for new western disturbances that will impact the weather from January 10 onwards.
Cold Wave: As per satellite imagery and available visibility data, the fog layer extended from Punjab and adjoining northwest Rajasthan to Bihar across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Delhi weather: We are waiting for the western disturbance which will be coming from the night of January 10. So, all these conditions of dense fog and cold wave will abate from January 10, IMD Scientist Dr RK Jenamani said.
Delhi weather update: Delhi's Safdarjung observatory logged a minimum temperature of 2.2 degrees Celsius, lower than that of most places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and some hill stations in Jammu and Kashmir.
The weather office said that the annual mean land surface air temperature was 0.51 degrees Celsius above the long-term average which is the mean temperature for the 1981-2010 period.
Cold wave in India: IMD said that the cold wave conditions will very likely continue over northwest India during the next three days and thereafter, decrease in intensity.
The India Meteorological Department predicted that the minimum and maximum temperatures in January 2023 are most likely to be below normal over many parts of central India and adjoining areas of peninsular, east and northwest India.
The weather department also said that due to the variation in the easterly wind speed, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places over coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions from January 3 to January 5.
Delhi-NCR weather: The Safdarjung observatory, Delhi's primary weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 6.3 degrees Celsius against 5.6 degrees on Tuesday and 5 degrees on Monday.
The depression, according to the India Meteorological Department, is likely to move further west-northwestwards and weaken over the southeast Arabian Sea.
In its statement, the IMD had also said that cold wave conditions are likely in parts of Haryana, Punjab and north Rajasthan.
Himachal Pradesh snowfall: The night temperatures have dropped in most parts of the state. During the past 24 hours, the temperatures have dropped in the region. Kukumseri in the Lahaul-Spiti District of the state recorded the lowest night temperature at minus 7.9 degree Celsius.
Cyclone Mandous updates: Before this, the IMD had predicted that the deep depression over the southwest and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to move west-northwards and intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm by Thursday morning.
The districts that were issued red alert are Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Chennai, Kallakurichi, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts of Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu weather: IMD, however, said that it was monitoring its impact on the state.
Karnataka rains: The rains are going to lash coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi besides hilly regions of Shivamogga, Kodagu and Hasan.
Delhi Air Quality: According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the city's overall Air Quality Index stood at 303 on Saturday morning.
