Cyclonic storm Biparjoy has begun to make landfall off the Gujarat coast. The weather department has warned that the storm may carry wind speed up to 145 km per hour and may cause severe damages.
Cyclone Biparjoy in Rajasthan: An orange alert has been issued in Rajsamand on Friday (June 16), while it will come to effect in Jaipur, Ajmer, Tonk and Nagaur on Saturday.
Monsoon will start advancing from June 18 onwards, the weather department informed on Wednesday.
Cyclone BiparjoyUPDATES: According to the India Meteorological Department, Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to land on Gujarat's Saurashtra and Kutch regions and adjoining Pakistan coasts on June 15.
Meanwhile, a heatwave alert has been issued for Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh , Odisha and Andhra Pradesh for the next five days which are currently reeling under the heatwave conditions.
Cyclone Biparjoy HIGHLIGHTS: According to director of the Ahmedabad IMD, Manorama Mohanty, the cyclone is likely to cross between Mandvi in Kutch and Karachi in Pakistan near the Jakhau port on June 15 with winds of 125-135 kmph and 150 kmph.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts of Gujarat and a yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane.
Delhi likely to witness hotter days ahead with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting clear skies and dry weather over the next few days.
Cyclone 'Biparjoy is likely to move nearly northwards during the next 36 hours and then north-northwestward during the subsequent two days.
Cyclone Biparjoy will further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 48 hours and move towards northwest India during the next three days.
In the meantime, the "very severe cyclonic storm" "Biparjoy" is likely to intensify over the central and adjacent southeast Arabian Sea around Goa within the next 12 hours.
Moonsoon update: Earlier, there was a forecast that Monsoon might enter Kerala on June 7.
Weather updates: The weather dept said that due to the moisture from the Arabian Sea, northwest India will have similar weather today and tomorrow (May 28) and there will be thunderstorms in North-Western India for 5 days.
Parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab witnessed a change of weather after light rains, thunderstorm hit these regions.
IMD predicts rainfall in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh for Wednesday as severe heatwave grips northern India.
The regional meteorological centre in its bulletin stated that Delhi is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky with heatwave conditions at isolated places with strong winds (speed 25-35 kmph) during the day.
During the day, the weather department has predicted mostly clear skies. It is likely that the maximum temperature will hover around 41 degrees Celsius.
The southwest monsoon normally sets in over Kerala on June 1, with a standard deviation of about 7 days.
IMD weather update: On Monday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 41.3 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was 25.2 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity swayed somewhere in the range of 46 and 28 percent.
