In Manpur, three persons died allegedly due to consumption of hooch, while two died in Chhoti Pahari, claimed family members of all the deceased.
While addressing media, Sanjay Jaiswal said, " Wherever the police are active, the illicit liquor sale is happening. Especially in the East Champaran, the sale of illicit alcohol could not happen without the collusion of police."
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav cornered Bihar CM Nitish Kumar over the incident and said that the state government has failed to take action against those responsible.
Talking to reporters, Superintendent of Police Upendra Nath Verma said, "It is a case of unnatural death and more information will be available only after a preliminary investigation."

After recent reports of several deaths due to consumption of illicit liquor, Uttar Pradesh Police has raided a spurious liquor factory in neighbouring Haryana which was in league with a liquor mafia in Aligarh district. Senior Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani told mediapersons that questioning of one of the arrested liquor mafia members, Madangopal alias Kalia who hails from Faridabad, led the police to the Gurugram factory.
