Flight operations at Delhi Airport were suspended for 26 minutes on Thursday evening due to extremely heavy rains accompanied by strong winds in the city, senior airport officials said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday directed that in view of incessant rain, which has claimed 93 lives since Thursday, no government official will be granted leave.
No respite is in sight with the Met Office predicting more rain in the next 24 hours and the state government has issued a "red alert".
The state capital continued to be among the worst affected, some of its parts submerged in water levels rising up to the chest and its residents being rescued with the help of municipal cranes normally used for moving earth.
As many as 35 people lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh since Friday, the state government said. While 25 of them died on Saturday, 10 lost their lives on Friday. The meteorological department said heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over eastern UP on Sunday.
The residents of Jammu woke up to a heavy cloud cover followed by rains and had to face waterlogging and traffic snarls at various places, including Panama chowk and Canal road.
Heavy downpour since Tuesday, which was triggered by a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh coast, caused inundation of low-lying areas in state capital Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Puri and Balasore districts, they said.
Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation and strong monsoon current, enhanced rainfall activity will take place in many parts of Odisha, Director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, H R Biswas said.
"The excessively heavy monsoon this season has adversely affected the runway surface," the Indian Navy said.
Rain-related incidents have killed at least 60 people in Uttarakhand this monsoon, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said here on Monday.
"The figure included three deaths in Amethi, two each in Raebareli, Sonbhadra and Mirzapur and one death each in Saharanpur, Hamirpur, Pratapgarh, Fathepur, Basti and, Ayodhya," the Relief Commissioner's office said.
While the Meteorological Department said no heavy rainfall was reported in most parts of the two states on Monday morning, the two states had received heavy rains during the past three days.
Heavy rains continued to lash several states across India on Saturday. Among those affected by incessant downpour are - Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Meanwhile, Punjab remains on alert today after a forecast of heavy rainfall in 48 to 72 hours.
The authorities have attributed increased rainfall with approaching western disturbance as the main reason behind the improvement in air quality.
A red alert has been issued for three districts on Tuesday as extremely heavy rains are expected in central Kerala as the flood-hit northern parts were slowly limping back to normalcy and the toll climbed to 88.
A team of ministers are in Wayanad overseeing the operations and by tomorrow (Saturday) morning all will get the required facilities at the relief camps that are being set up across Wayanad district.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) B P Sethi said that torrential rainfall submerged vast areas in Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Sawant said: "In view of heavy rains, the Education Department has been asked to declare a holiday for students on Wednesday. The heavy rains are expected to continue for the next three days."
Alert UP police personnel Girish Kumar and Deepak Kumar immediately rushed to rescue the woman.
According to officials, the water level in Koshi river is increasing continuously and at the Gandak barrage it has risen sharply due to heavy rain in the Terai region of Nepal.
