For the first time in years, Mumbai attack mastermind and Jammat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed was not allowed by the government on Wednesday to lead Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at his favourite venue Qaddafi Stadium here, an official said.
Hafiz Abdur Rahman Makki, brother in law of Hafiz Saeed and second in-command of JuD has been held in Pakistan's Gujranwala. Makki's organisation, Ahl-e-Hadith, is a political-arm of Lashkar-e-Taiba. The United States has issued $ 10 million reward for Makki.
The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets worth Rs 73.12 lakh in connection with a terror financing and money laundering case linked to global terrorism Hafiz Muhammad Saeed.
Before the government's action, a large number of people, mostly JuD activists and its sympathizers, would gather at the mosque every Friday to listen to Saeed's sermon.
This is perhaps for the first time in years that Saeed despite being present in Lahore will not be able to deliver Friday sermon at Jamia Masjid Qadsia, the JuD headquarters here.
The Sindh government confirmed that it has taken control over 56 facilities being run by these proscribed organisations.
In a significant development, the United Nations has rejected an appeal of JuD chief Hafiz Saeed, the 2008 Mumbai terror attack mastermind, to remove his name from its list of banned terrorists, government sources said on Thursday.
The ban comes hours after Pakistan ordered detention of 44 members of banned militant outfits. Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar's son Hamad Azhar and brother Mufti Adbul Raoof are among the detained.
The NCTA website says the notification regarding JuD and FIF putting them under the list of organisation under watch was issued on February 21. However, before that the website had said that both JuD and FIF were placed on the watch list in January 2017.
"If Pakistan had enough control over terrorists, they would have acted against them first as people die everyday in frequent attacks in their country too," Mufti said.
Pakistan on Thursday banned the 2008 Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed-led Jamat-ud-Dawa and its charity wing Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation. Pakistan, however, did not mention a word on terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed and its chief Maulana Masood Azhar.
Saeed was declared a global terrorist by the US and the UN after the 2008 Mumbai attack and was put under house arrest in November 2008 but freed by a court some months later.
“I was found out by the terrorists. They got me out. Me, along with two more guests, we were made to stand in line and we were shot point blank,” he says.
The court issued the warrants on Thursday against the two Pakistan-based terrorist leaders for their active involvement in terror funding for creating unrest in the Kashmir valley and other parts of India.
Hafiz Saeed's counsel informed the IHC that the ordinance was neither extended by the current government nor it was tabled in the Parliament to convert it into act
Mosques are places of worship, and no religion allows building of a place of worship with terror funding.
The CRA described the ROKM as the "charitable arm" of Jamaat-e-Islami, a Pakistani Islamist political party whose armed wing, Hizbul Mujahideen, is listed as a terrorist group in India, Europe, and the United States.
A banner in the background said the conference was in "defence of Pakistan", and mentioned "Kashmir" as well as "threats from India".
