With nine Congress and three JD-S rebels staying at a five-star hotel in Mumbai along with the two Independents, the ruling allies will not have the numbers required to win the trust vote if moved and put to vote in the 225-member Assembly, including one nominated but has no voting right.
Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday had told Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar that he was ready to seek a trust vote or face a no-confidence motion if the BJP moves it against him during the 10-day monsoon session till July 26. This comes in view of the resignation filed by 16 rebel legislators of the ruling Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) (JD-S) allies.
The letter signed by 10 MLAs said they have heard that Kumaraswamy , Shivkumar and others are going to storm the hotel premises they are staying in and they feel threatened by this.

The total strength of the JD(S)-Congress coalition after Nagesh's withdrawal is 117 (Congress-78, JD(S)-37, BSP-1 and Independents-1) besides the Speaker.

Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday cried foul over the Union Budget's proposal to cut the state's share of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in fiscal 2019-20.
Though on a week-long private visit to the US since June 29, the Chief Minister addressed US investors and NRIs at the seminar on "New business opportunities in Karnataka", organised by the US-India Small and Medium Enterprise Council.
Kumaraswamy's convoy was blocked for about 20 minutes following which the chief minister lost his cool. He got up from his seat twice to argue with the protestors.
"Our party leaders met Kumaraswamy at the state-run Kumarakrupa guest house in the city to discuss a cabinet reshuffle and ensure the continuation of the government," Congress spokesman Ravi Gowda told IANS.
"I assure you - all my MLAs are Vishwamitra, who would not fall for the charms of celestial nymph. The celestial nymph is the BJP. The saffron party has failed in their attempts to destabilise the government on many occasions,"A H Vishwanath.
According to the latest counting trends, an upbeat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 23 seats, the Congress in three and the JD-S in one.
"You can go through the records to see what happened in Deve Gowda's ten-month government and five years under the leadership of PM Modi." Kumaraswamy said.
"Only because of dynasty politics and regional politics, this country developed in several states. We're not bothered about criticism from the BJP,” ANI quoted HD Kumaraswamy as saying after casting his vote in Ramanagara during the second phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019.
"It is shocking to know a Chief Minister's thinking is so low to say those who don't get a square meal a day join the Army and not the rich. What else can people expect from such a leader. By using such words, Kumaraswamy has insulted our patriotic soldiers who sacrifice their life to protect the country," said Modi at a huge BJP poll rally in the state's northwest region.
The raids took place at about 15 to 20 locations, triggering widespread condemnation and protests by the leaders of the ruling coalition.
The warning by State congress chief Dinesh Gundu Rao comes after repeated failed attempts by the party leadership, including him and CLP leader Siddaramaiah, to pacify Mandya Congress leaders, who are upset over decision to cede the seat to the JD(S), and are strongly opposing Nikhil's candidature.
