Police said the protests turned violent, with rioters setting cars on fire, after false online rumours suggesting that the 17-year-old attacker was an asylum seeker. The stabbing incident on Monday, that killed three girls and injured over 10 others, shook Britain at a time of rising knife crime.
The Uttar Pradesh human rights body has taken note of the incident at Babuhara village in Asoha -- around 36 km south of Lucknow -- in Unnao district on Wednesday evening and political parties slammed the Yogi Adityanath government over it.
ASP Rajesh Kumar said the bodies of Sumi (12) and Kiran (8), daughters of Dilip Dhobhi, a Dalit, were retrieved from the pond. Both the bodies had injury marks in the eyes, he said.
Two girls died after being hit by a truck in a village here while they were heading to school on Wednesday, which was open despite government orders to shut all educational institutes in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
