Prosecutors had asked for the gag order citing what they called his “long history of making public and inflammatory remarks” about people involved in his legal cases. The order also bars Donald Trump from making or directing others to make public statements about people involved in the trial.
The 19-page gag order has included inflammatory posts made by Trump on his platform, Truth Social, where he called Judge Tanya Chutkan a "radical Obama hack".
Justice Mohite-Dere said mere apprehension of sensationalism by the accused was not a sufficient ground for issuing such gag orders.
"They shall also not use their personal social media accounts for any political activity or endorse the posts or tweets or blogs of any political figure," the new rule states.
