The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued an operational framework for reclassification of foreign portfolio investment by FPI to FDI.
The inflow came following a net investment of Rs 22,363 crore into the Indian debt market in July, Rs 14,955 crore in June and Rs 8,760 crore in May.
Before November, FPI participation in Indian stocks was lukewarm, and they had turned net sellers. They sold Rs 14,768 crore and Rs 24,548 crore in September and October, respectively.
Data from depositories shows that foreign portfolio investors sold shares worth Rs 12,146 crore this month (till October 20), following net selling in September where they pulled out Rs 14,767 crore. Prior to these outflows, FPIs were consistently buying Indian equities in the last six months.
Business news: FPIs have been continuous buyers during the last 12 trading sessions. In May, through 12th, they bought equity for Rs 18,617 crore. Financials continue to be the favourite sector of FPIs. They were buyers in capital goods and autos too.
Stock Market Updates: The March investment was mainly driven by bulk investment in the Adani Group companies by the US-based GQG Partners.
With the investments in Aug, the net FPI investment in the equities segment in 2021 now stands at Rs 54,037 cr.
According to data available with the depositories, FPIs withdrew a net amount of Rs 5,880 crore during January 1-25
Going ahead, the focus would be on the budget, progress on the economic growth front and general elections, said market experts.
This was the highest inflow since January, when FPIs had put in Rs 22,240 crore in the capital markets.
FPIs have been net sellers almost throughout this year barring some months such as January, March, July and August.
The proposals were cleared by the board of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) at its meeting In Mumbai.
According to the latest depository data, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) withdrew a net sum of Rs 4,318 crore from equities during September 3-14.
