The Kerala government has formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate a fire accident during a Theyyam performance at a temple, injuring 154 people, eight of them seriously, due to improperly stored firecrackers.
The fire erupted on the first floor of the building where pastries were being baked. It spread to nearby crackers and cotton which further exacerbated the condition. A fire tender was rushed to the spot which got the blaze under control.
Among over 150 injured, eight were in serious condition. All the injured were taken to the hospitals in Kerala's Kasargod, Kannur, and Mangaluru. Senior officials including, SP and DC also reached the spot after the accident.
At first, the fire caught a restaurant and then spread to the crackers shop in the vicinity. The restaurant was burnt to ashes in the massive blaze. A woman was also injured in the incident.
The fire caught a two-room flat on the fourth floor of the building in Delhi's Kishangarh area. Four inured were taken to the hospital. One injured was hospitalised in AIIMS while the remaining three were admitted to Safdarjung Hospital.
The deceased left the home with his two friends but did not return. The Greater Noida Police took both his friend in custody and are investigating the case. A forensics team has also reached the spot.
