The Indian team has a packed calendar ahead with several big-ticket tournaments like the World Cup, Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games scheduled.
The 26-year-old from Amritsar made his International debut against France during the FIH Hockey Pro League matches in South Africa last week.
After an evenly contested first quarter when the scores were tied 1-1, India completely dominated in the remaining three periods, pumping in nine goals against the hapless South Africans to notch up their third win in four matches.
Newcomer Jugraj Singh (4', 6', 23') starred in India's high-scoring victory as he contributed three brilliant goals to the scoreline with his impeccable drag flicks.
Harmanpreet Singh and Varun Kumar scored from penalty corners in the 21st and 24th minutes respectively before Shamsher Singh made it 3-0 in the 28th minute. Mandeep Singh (32nd) and Akashdeep Singh (41st) completed the tally.
After France, the Manpreet Singh-led side will face hosts South Africa on Wednesday.

India will still travel to Europe in May to play the Pro League matches against Spain (May 15-16) and Germany (May 22-23).
Lalit Upadhyay, Rupinder Pal Singh and Dilpreet Singh were on target in the shoot-out, while goalkeeping stalwart Sreejesh came up with some breath-taking saves to fetch India a bonus point.
The first match in both the men's and women's division will see Germany hosting Belgium on September 22 and 23.
The FIH has also announced that the window for season 3 of the league will be from September 2021 to June 2022.
India are currently fourth on the table with 10 points from two wins and as many number of losses and draws behind Belgium, Australia and the Netherlands.
The New Zealand men's team was slated to face the Indian team on May 23 and 24 in Bhubaneswar.
The world hockey body first had postponed all matches scheduled before April 15 and later extended the deferment till May 17 because of the novel coronavirus which has killed more than 50,000 globally.
