A three-member high-powered panel was constituted on Monday to recommend ways to restore normal functioning of the Jawaharlal Nehru University and mediate between the administration and students who have been protesting for over three weeks over the hostel fee hike.
The examination fee has been increased by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on 'no profit no loss' principle, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' said on Thursday.
"The bus carrying blind students who were going to protest at the Delhi Commissioner office has been illegally stopped by Delhi Police," a student on the bus carrying visually challenged students alleged.
The committee will be meeting hostel presidents of the varsity in the later half of the day. The HRD Ministry had on Monday constituted the three-member committee to recommend ways to restore normal functioning of the JNU.
Umesh Kadam, the dean of students, said he has not yet notified the students' union.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Wednesday ordered partial rollback of hostel fees hike. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Executive Council -- the highest decision-making body of JNU .

In 2013, the Delhi government formed a committee State Fee Regulatory Committee (SFRC) to check and regularise the fee structure of the various colleges of Indraprastha University. The need for such a committee came when the authorities of the colleges complained that they don't have funds to pay the salary of the faculty. The committee assigned the task of regularising the fee of all the 74 colleges of the University.
On 22 April, after the Supreme Court dismissed Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by students, the colleges affiliated to IPU had sent fee arrear notifications. The SLP was filed after the Delhi High Court passed the revised fee judgement on 28 January allowing colleges to hike fee.
The CBSE has enhanced the examination fee for classes 10 and 12 for 2020, the Directorate of Education (DoE) said in a letter. In this regard heads of all government and government-aided schools are directed to not collect examination fees from students of class 10 and 12 for payment to the CBSE till further directions
A deficit of over Rs 200 crore in conducting board examination for class 10 and 12 has forced the CBSE to hike fees, according to officials.
