Fawad Alam has retired from Pakistan cricket and will now be seen plying his trade in the USA.
Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop has lavished praise on Fawad Alam after the end of Day 3 of the second Test against the West Indies at Sabina Park.
After being reduced to 2/3, Pakistan steered towards recovery courtesy a 166-run partnership between Babar Azam (75) and Fawad Alam (76 retired hurt).
Babar raised his 16th test half-century and was unbeaten on 77 with a dozen boundaries while left-handed Alam continued his rich batting form to be 42 off 138 balls.
The 35-year-old Alam hit nine fours and two sixes in a patient 109 off 245 balls, compiled in just under six hours, to help his team reach 308-8 at stumps.
Fawad's century, also his first on home soil, single-handedly guided Pakistan past South Africa's first-innings total of 220, after the top order collapsed in the final session of the opening day.
The victory wasn’t the emphatic one New Zealand likely had envisaged when they came to the fifth day of a test match for the first time this season holding a sizeable advantage.
Fawad Alam came to bat at no. 6 and faced only four balls before getting dismissed by Chris Woakes.
Fawad last played a Test match for Pakistan was in November 2009 against New Zealand.
Alam has so far played three Tests and scored 250 runs, including one century.
Alam represented Pakistan in only three Test matches, piling 250 runs at an average of 41.66. His last Test was against New Zealand at Dunedin way back in 2009.
Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has defended the 16-man national squad for tours of Ireland and England as the "best of the best" despite criticism over the omission of batsman Fawad Alam.
