The farmers agitating against the three laws have intensified their protests against the leaders of the ruling BJP-JJP combine in Haryana.
Eight people were killed on Sunday as violence erupted during farmers' protest in Lakhimpur Kheri, claiming the lives of both farmers and BJP workers ahead of a visit by UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. Four of the dead were people in the cars, apparently a part of a convoy of BJP workers who had come to welcome the UP minister.
Describing the incident as "unfortunate", Yogi Adityanath said that "action will be taken against whoever is responsible."
Other political parties in Punjab too demanded the registration of a case against those who "crushed farmers to death".
Speaking to India TV, Union Minister Ajay Mishra said that stones were pelted on the convoy, BJP workers were attacked, and a driver was lynched in the violence. He also alleged that there were some anti-national elements among farmers who somehow wants to create unrest in the country.
While leaving Ghazipur on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border for Lakhimpur Kheri, Tikait, the BKU’s national spokesperson, claimed that “several farmers” are feared dead during the violence in which two vehicles were also allegedly set on fire.
Rahul Gandhi said those who remain silent even after Sunday's incident in Lakhimpur Kheri are already dead and underlined that the sacrifice of farmers will not go in vain.
Infuriated farmers set three jeeps on fire after some of the protestors were run over by the vehicles. One of the vehicles belongs to Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home, Ajay Mishra Teni.

"You have blocked highways and roads. You have strangulated the city and now you want to come inside the city and protest," a bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and CT Ravikumar said.
The bench asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Solicitor General K.M. Nataraj: What was the government doing in the matter?
Terming the farm laws as anti-farmers and anti-food security, Channi said that they are a potent threat to their livelihood and future generations.
Several trains were cancelled, highways and key roads blocked and many thousands stranded for hours on Monday as a nationwide 10-hour shutdown against the Centre’s three farm laws disrupted lives across parts of India, particularly in the north.
The protestors, mostly supporters of the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, have been staging a sit-in outside the Noida Authority's office for the past several days over a host of demands including hiked compensation for their land acquired by the government.
