Earlier a farm loan waiver of Rs 2 lakh was promised by the Revanth Reddy government during the state assembly elections. However, the amount has been slashed to half in the latest announcement.
CM Revanth Reddy said the Cabinet Sub-Committee to hold discussions with all stakeholders including farmer groups, agriculture workers and political parties to prepare a report. The Sub-Committee will submit a report to govt by July 15.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh cleared the 1.15 lakh more cases for debt waiver amounting to Rs 580 crore, with certificates to be disbursed to farmers across the state before January 31.
According to the CM, the waiver will help all debt-ridden farmers and small and marginal ones entirely. He also said that the loan waiver will put a burden on the state treasury.
Naidu’s remarks come days after Finance minister Arun Jaitley ruled out Central funding for any state's farm loan waiver and said that the Centre will adhere to fiscal targets.
