Earlier a farm loan waiver of Rs 2 lakh was promised by the Revanth Reddy government during the state assembly elections. However, the amount has been slashed to half in the latest announcement.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra, former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, ministers, MLAs and many other leaders and workers joined Gandhi. Tight security arrangements have been made for the yatra.
Chief minister Hemant Soren on completion of one-year of his government on December 29 last year had officially announced the farm loan waiver scheme.

The Hemant Soren government in Jharkhand has decided to waive farm loans up to Rs 50,000. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday which was presided over by the CM.

The newly-formed Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government has announced a loan waiver of up to Rs 2 lakh for farmers with a cut-off date of September 30, 2019. The scheme is applicable to non-defaulting farmers who have an outstanding of Rs 2 lakh or more.
Leader of Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria, however, expressed dissatisfaction over the reply. He insisted that the government should have waived off the loans within 10 days of coming to power as was promised by the Congress.
BJP MP Virendra Singh Mast said the Modi government has taken historical steps to improve the condition of the farmers and in the coming days some decisions will be taken to economically strengthen them.
The state has collaborated with the World Economic Forum for Fourth Industrial Revolution and has begun pilot project to introduce drones in agriculture, the chief minister said.
However, he said short-term measures might be required in some states that are facing real farm distress.
"We promised to waive loans in 10 days. In two states, we did it within six hours and we would do it in the third state very soon," Gandhi told reporters outside Parliament.
It is pertinent to mention here that within hours of coming to power in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, Congress governments waived off farm loans.
Fulfilling the pre-poll promises made by the Congress, order to waive off farmers’ agricultural loans were issued by newly elected chief ministers of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
The 72-year-old Kamal Nath, who represented Chhindwara for nine terms in the Lok Sabha, was the only one to take the oath even as the other contender to the Chief Minister's post, Jyotiraditya Scindia, was present. The ceremony was held an hour behind schedule at 2.30 p.m.

"Farmers are committing suicide all over the country. Thousands of farmers committed suicide in Telangana because they didn't get proper price (for their produce),” Gandhi said.
"The 'Kisan Kranti Padyatra' that started on Sept 23 had to end at Delhi's Kisan Ghat. Since Delhi police didn't allow us to enter we protested. Our aim was to finish the yatra which has been done. Now we'll go back to our villages," Naresh Tikait, President, Bharatiya Kisan Union said.
