The collision was so severe that one of the cars jumped and fell on the barricade on the expressway. Three people are reported to have been injured in the accident. Soon after the accident, they were referred to the district hospital for treatment.
The incident took place when the family was travelling from Ahmedabad to Haridwar. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.
Road accidents are still rising on the Western Peripheral Expressway or the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway which was made operational in 2019.
The maximum speed limit for vehicles on the expressway will be reduced from December 15 and the limits will stay in place till February 15, 2021. Keeping in view the fog, the speed of small vehicles has been reduced by 20 per cent and that of heavy vehicles by 25 per cent.
At least six people were killed after a roadways bus hit a car on the Agra Expressway, police said on Tuesday. The accident occurred on the intervening night of February 17 and 18 when the driver of the bus, which was on its way to Muzaffarpur in Bihar, lost control over the vehicle.
Two members of a family were killed and three others injured when their car crashed into a road divider on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in neighbouring Raigad district. The three injured persons, including a two-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, were admitted to MGM Hospital in neighbouring Navi Mumbai, the official said.
Delta Force is a special unit deployed on the expressway to help the local police in checking crimes and curbing accidents on one of the country's most modern roads.
Over 1,60,000 vehicles have been issued challans on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway since April 2018 for over-speeding, according to police.
