The military administration in Niger gave a 48-hour deadline to French Ambassador to Niger Sylvain Itte to leave the country, which he defied.
Sylvain Itte was ordered by the Nigerien Foreign Ministry to leave the country within 48 hours on Sunday, citing "actions of the French government contrary to the interests of Niger".
Notably, France's state-run schools have already strict laws against any religious symbols on buildings or government buildings, arguing it violates secular laws.
Denouncing the violent attack, French President Emmanuel Macron's office, in a statement, said, "The President will not tolerate any attack against France and its interests". The office mentioned that it would respond to attacks against French diplomats, armed forces or businesses.
