India and China initiated troop disengagement at key friction points in Eastern Ladakh, including Demchok and Depsang Plains. Defense officials confirmed the pullback aligned with recent bilateral agreements to restore stability along the disputed border.
China said troops have disengaged from four areas in eastern Ladakh, including Galwan Valley, following talks between NSA Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Russia. Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said 75 per cent of the issues had been sorted out.
The meeting is being held at the Chushul-Moldo meeting point in the Eastern Ladakh sector and unresolved issues are being taken up by both countries.
India-China disengagement in Ladakh: The process, which started on September 8 after months of talks and 16 rounds of Corps Commander meetings, as per sources, entails both two sides moving back after their May 2020 friction.
India and China have been engaged in the border face-off in eastern Ladakh for around two years now. Although disengagement started last year, the two sides are yet to complete disengagement in all friction areas.
