According to the National Center for Seismology, the first tremors were felt at around 6:08 am while the second occurred 10 minutes later.
The earthquake jolts were felt in Quetta, Noshki, Chagi, Chaman, Qilla Abdullah, Dalbadin, Pishin and some other areas of the province. However, officials did not report any casualties from any area where the tremors were felt, even as Balochistan has been hit by strong earthquakes before.
An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter Scale hit Afghanistan. In a post on X, the NCS wrote, " Earthquake of Magnitude:4.5, Occurred on 17-03-2024, 19:59:23 IST, Lat: 36.66 & Long: 71.43, Depth: 169 Km, Region: Afghanistan."
The epicentre of the earthquake was off the coast of Fukushima prefecture, where strong tremors were recorded, the agency said, adding that a tsunami warning had not been issued.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake struck the Qinghai region of the country at 15:36 IST. As of now, there were no reports of any injuries or casualties.
The quake was at a depth of 10 km and tremors were felt at around 9:35 pm.
Mild tremors were felt in the area around the epicentre of the quake. On Wednesday, an earthquake measuring 3.4-magnitude had hit the Ladakh region.
