The dollar decreased on Tuesday, as long-term US Treasury yields retreated again, raising worries over potential economic slowdown. The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.17 per cent at 98.1849 in late trading, the Xinhua news agency reported.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the rupee opened weak at 71.33 then fell to 71.47 against the US dollar, showing a decline of 20 paise over its previous closing.

Besides, the dollar's overseas weakness, easing global crude oil price and higher opening in the domestic stock market supported recovery in the domestic unit, traders said.
The British pound held firm after making its biggest gains in seven months the previous day, following comments from the European Union's chief negotiator offering Britain closing ties after Brexit.
