The EC in March, 2017 had given the 'hat' symbol to the Dhinakaran group after it froze the use of the 'two-leaves' symbol to which the group led by Palaniswami and Panneerselvam had also laid claim.
"We will not allow Dinakaran to use the name AIADMK and we will take all legal steps for this purpose," the state fisheries minister said.
The verdict is crucial for the Dhinakaran faction as well as the ruling side engaged in a power struggle in the AIADMK.
The action comes a day after Dhinakaran won the RK Nagar bypoll by a thumping margin of 40,707 votes against AIADMK’s E Madhusudhanan.
Dhinakaran won the bypoll by a thumping margin of over 40,000 votes while DMK candidate N Maruthu Ganesh finished third, garnering 24,651 votes, in the process losing deposit. AIADMK’s E Madhusudanan came second.
