Govt decides against rethink over 2003 ceasefire agreement with Pakistan
Lt Gen A K Bhatt told his Pakistani counterpart that there appeared to be a “disconnect” between the Pakistan Army’s reiteration about the desire for peace and the action of its troops.
DGMO Lt Gen A K Bhatt told his Pakistani counterpart that the trend of cross-border infiltration with “active support” of Pakistani forward posts has been continuing, impacting peace in the border areas.
The Indian DGMO today told his counterpart in Pakistan that India reserves the right to retaliate appropriately to Pakistani firing along the LoC.
In their telephonic conversation, the two army commanders discussed the situation along the Line of Control which has witnessed increasing incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the last couple of months.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Monday approved Lt Gen A K Bhatt’s appointment as the country's new DGMO.
"Earlier strikes, they were not even strikes, they were cross-border operations done at the local level," Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia said.
