The weather office had issued a yellow alert Sunday morning and predicted clear skies over Delhi. The same conditions will prevail for the next four to five days, and temperatures will rise in Delhi, IMD added.
However, the silver lining is: Cloudy skies and thunder may provide some relief from the intense heat next week.
The maximum temperature in Delhi on Friday is likely to hover around 40 degrees Celsius.
The reason for such weather is attributed to the Western Disturbance which has an induced Cyclonic Circulation for Haryana and adjoining regions.
According to IMD, Delhi sizzled at 42.4 degree Celsius on Apr 9, which has been the hottest day in five years.
The relative humidity at 8.30 am was recorded at 48 per cent today.
Akola city in Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded the highest temperature for the day in the Vidarbha region at 42. 9 degrees Celsius.
