Deputy Director-General of IMD, Anand Sharma on July 07, informed that Delhi-NCR will receive moderate thundershower for next 24 hours and after that light rain thundershowers for the next 48 hours.
Thunderstorm with rain would occur over Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Sahaswan, Badaun, Palwal, Hodal, Nuh, Khurja, Aurangabad, Mathura, and Alwar during the next 2 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed on Monday.
The India Meteorological Department has said conditions may become favourable for the advancement of southwest monsoon in Delhi and Haryana around June 25 even though it is unlikely to progress further till June 21.
In some good news for Delhiites, the India Meteorological Department on Wednesday said the monsoon is likely to reach the national capital three to four days earlier than the usual date of June 27.
The thunderstorms are likely to peak on Friday afternoon. The wind speed is likely to touch 50 km per hour, it said. As a result, trees and hoardings may get damaged.
Thundershowers lashed Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) on Saturday evening, Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted moderately cloudy skies, strong surface winds along with very light rain and hail at isolated places.
According to the weather forecast for today, winds gusting up to 25 kmph are expected in Delhi, which are likely to ameliorate the pollution levels in the national capital.
Delhi on Friday woke up with continuous light rain in some regions which lead to a drop in mercury, bringing the minimum temperature down to 9 degrees Celsius.
Parts of Delhi and adjoining areas to the national capital on Thursday morning witnessed light rains which led a slight dip in the temperature with the air quality recorded under the 'poor' category.
Parts of Delhi received scattered rainfall on Monday afternoon. Temperatures in Delhi have been on a rise since the past few days, which has brought a brief respite from the coldwave conditions. However, now the weather department has issued a severe weather alert for Delhi and nearby areas.
Several flights were diverted from Delhi's IGI Airport following the heavy downpour. Operations at the airport had to be briefly suspended. Air India and Vistara were among the carriers whose services were affected.
Srinagar and higher reaches of Kashmir received snowfall, while rain lashed other parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, the meteorological department said. Snowfall also occurred in some parts of Ladakh, it said.
The national capital remains swallowed by dark grey clouds and more showers are likely during the day.
Intense clouding could be seen engulfing Delhi and adjoining areas of Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad.
It was a sultry day in Delhi on Thursday with rains in parts of the national capital in the morning hours. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 10.8 mm of rainfall, while the Palam observatory recorded 48 mm of rainfall, the official said.
