In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in New Delhi, metro authorities on Thursday night issued an advisory asking commuters to use the rapid transit network only when it is "essential and unavoidable".
As the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in India is surging, the panic among the people is also rising. Many are avoiding public transportation for commutation as a measure to prevent the transmission of the novel coronavirus.
The Delhi government has ordered DTC and cluster buses, metro and hospitals to be disinfected on a regular basis as a precautionary measure to deal with the novel coronavirus, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday.
"It is to reiterate that these are all rumours. Don't pay attention to such rumours. Delhi Police is closely monitoring accounts spreading rumours and taking action," the police said, adding that rumours about tension in Dwarka and Badarpur areas were also "unsubstantiated".
