A survey conducted by LocalCircles claimed that 42 percent of Delhi-NCR residents that had symptoms and took a COVID test in the last 30 days only took the self rapid antigen test.
This is the third consecutive day of Delhi recording over 1,000 Covid-19 cases. On Saturday, Delhi logged 1,094 fresh Covid-19 cases and two deaths, while on Friday, city reported 1,042 new cases.
The mandate will not be applicable to those who are travelling in private vehicles together. A fine of Rs 500 will be imposed on those seen flouting the norm in public places.
Over 300 samples have been genome sequenced in Delhi in the first fortnight. The official said the same sub-variants more or less have been found in samples sequenced in neighbouring districts in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
The positivity rate has jumped to 5.7 per cent against 4.42 per cent on the previous day. The number of active cases has also surged to 2,641, out of which 1,578 patients are being treated in home isolation.
The scientist elaborated that due to the opening of schools and colleges, the people have become socially active resultantly the surge in cases is being witnessed.
Officials said the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), in its meeting, also decided not to shut schools, but chose to come up with a separate Standard Operating Procedure in consultation with experts.
According to the Delhi government's health bulletin on Tuesday, 632 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours. The number of hospitalisations, however, is very low and deaths due to Covid are negligible.
Meanwhile, Delhi's COVID-19 positivity rate on Monday jumped to 7.72 per cent even as the city recorded 501 fresh cases, 16 less than the previous day, according to health department data.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the government is keeping a watch on the situation. He also underlined that it is necessary to wear face masks, even though the fine for not doing so had been withdrawn.
The senior pediatrician believes according to data most cases in the past 10 days are mainly due to BA.2 variant.
Delhi had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14, the highest during the third wave of the pandemic which was largely driven by the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Regular washing of hands and use of sanitizers and creating awareness about the prevention of Covid among students, teachers and other supporting staff and parents visiting the school are also advised.
Earlier this month, the DDMA decided to withdraw the fine on not wearing face masks at public places. In February, the DDMA lifted all restrictions in the wake of the significant improvement in the COVID-19 situation in the city.
