Delhi: Air quality remains in 'very poor' category

A shallow foggy condition is likely to keep AQI poor for the next two days in Delhi.
According to SAFAR, the level of PM 2.5 at 7:20 am stands at 'very poor' category.
The air quality of neighboring Noida has also slipped to the 'very poor' category. The AQI in the NCR region stands at 333.
The air quality and weather bulletin for Delhi-NCR, said: "The air quality over Delhi-NCT is likely to deteriorate marginally and remain in poor to lower end of very poor category on December 13. The air quality is likely to remain 'very poor' category on December 14 and 15.
As per the government agencies, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.
The air quality in the national capital remained stagnant in the 'very poor' category for several days in the past week.
According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the level of PM 2.5 and PM 10 in the air at 9 am stood at very poor and moderate levels, respectively.
In view of the air quality standard, SAFAR issued an advisory to reduce heavy exertion. According to SAFAR prediction, the AQI in national capital will deteriorate to 321 and will remain in the 'very poor' category on Tuesday.
The PM 10 level were recorded at 255 in the 'poor' category and PM 2.5 levels were recorded at 132 in the 'very poor' category, as per thr SAFAR.
The air quality in Noida has improved from 'hazardous' to 'very poor' category. The overall AQI in Noida stood at 331.
Delhi AQI: The slow wind speed due to the Western Disturbance will allow the accumulation of pollutants and thus, increase the air pollution levels.
As per SAFAR, from December 1 wind speed and temperature are likely to decrease reducing ventilation leading to the slight deterioration of air quality.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.
The PM 2.5 was recorded at 372 in the 'very poor' category at 6:20 am. Gurugram and Noida recorded AQI of 349 and 497 in the 'very poor' and 'severe' categories respectively.
The city's 24-hour air quality index (AQI) stood at 406 on Friday. Neighbouring Faridabad (434), Ghaziabad, (376) Gurugram (378) and Noida (392) also recorded their air quality in the 'very poor' category.
The air pollution level in the National Capital Region (NCR) fluctuated between "very poor" and "poor". Gurugram and Noida recorded AQI of 283 and 303 in the "poor" and "very poor" categories on Wednesday morning.
The air quality of Delhi is likely to improve to the 'poor' or 'lower end of very poor' category for the next two days.
According to the SAFAR bulletin, the per cent share of stubble burning related pollutants to Delhi's PM2.5 may remain low in spite of high wind speeds.
According to the directions of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), schools and colleges will remain closed till further orders.
