As per government agencies, an AQI within the range of 0-5 is regarded as 'good', 51-100 is 'satisfactory', 101-200 is 'moderate', 201-300 is 'poor' and 301-400 is 'very poor' and 401-500 is considered 'severe'.

Ministry of Earth Sciences' forecast body SAFAR said the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded as 350, which falls in the 'very poor' category with PM2.5 as the lead pollutant.

The air quality in Delhi improved to the 'poor' from 'very poor' category on Saturday morning, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 280, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).
AQI is forecasted to further improve and in the Moderate to Satisfactory category for March 7 and marginally deteriorate to Moderate to Poor category on 8 and March 9," SAFAR said in its bulletin.
SAFAR in its bulletin said that an increase in temperature and boundary layer height has helped in pushing the national capital's overall air quality from the 'very poor' to 'poor' category.
According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), PM10 pollutants were recorded at 245 and PM2.5 pollutants were recorded at 131.
Delhi woke up to "dense to very dense fog" on Saturday with the minimum temperature settling at 10.4 degrees Celsius, as per the Meteorological department.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported AQIs of 392 in ITO, 412 in RK Puram and 406 in Chandni Chowk, all in the 'very poor' category.
The IMD also predicted similar conditions over other parts of the country, including "Dense to very dense (fog) at isolated places over Punjab and Haryana.
The air quality of the national capital improved to the 'moderate' category on Sunday as the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 159.
Visibility was reported at 25 meters due to dense fog in Bareilly, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur on Tuesday. Visibility of 50 meters was reported at Ganganagar, Patiala, Baharaich, and Purnea, IMD said.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a tweet stated, "Visibility (in meter) recorded 0530 hours IST of January 31: Delhi (Palam and Safdarjung)-1000m."
Delhi on Thursday remained enveloped in a layer of fog with visibility as low as 0 meter at some isolated pockets of the national capital.
"The minimum temperature in Delhi dipped down to 3 degree Celsius and the maximum temperature is expected to touch 21 degree Celsius," the Regional Meteorological Department of Delhi stated in its daily report.
A fresh Western Disturbance will start affecting the Western Himalayan region Friday onwards. As a result, the mercury is likely to drop to 4 degrees Celsius by Monday, an IMD official said.
