The new coronavirus variant was identified due to Public Health England's (PHE) proactive and enhanced monitoring following the increase in cases seen in Kent and London. The variant has been named 'VUI -- 202012/01' (the first Variant Under Investigation in December 2020).
A total of 58 people have tested positive in India for the new UK variant of coronavirus, according to the Union Health Ministry. It said that 20 new cases have been identified at National Institute of Virology, Pune.
The Maharashtra health department went into a tizzy as 8 passengers who recently returned from the UK were found infected with the new strain of Covid, officials said here on Monday.
In the last 24 hours, 494 new Covid cases and 13 new deaths have been reported in Delhi while 40 people have been detected with new corona strain.
India has successfully cultured the new 'more infectious' coronavirus strain, which had originated in the United Kingdom, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said on Saturday.
A total of 25 cases of mutant United Kingdom virus have been detected in India after genome sequencing, Union Ministry of Health informed on Thuesday. Out of the five fresh cases, four have been traced by National Institute of Virology in Pune and CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology in Delhi.
