After a brawl over public toilet use, the internet services have been suspended in Chandannagar and Srerampore sub-division of Hoogly district till 6 pm of May 17. The scuffle over toilet amid the coronavirus lockdown triggered communal violence in several parts of Hooghly district on Tuesday night.
Section 144 has been imposed and internet services suspended in Sawai Madhopur district's Gangapur City in Rajasthan following a communal clash during a VHP rally, police said. The rally was organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on its foundation day on Sunday.
The unrest had forced the district administration to clamp prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC banning assembly of people and suspended Internet services. The prohibitions were still in place by Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, internet services have been suspended in the district to prevent rumours from spreading in view of the tense situation.
Internet services were suspended to check the spread of rumours and the prohibitory orders were clamped to maintain peace, Asansol sub-divisional officer Proloy Roychowdhury said.
Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said that the highest number of communal incidents in 2017 were reported in Uttar Pradesh where 44 people were killed and 542 others were injured in 195 communal incidents.
