A cold wave continued to grip Himachal Pradesh on Friday despite prevailing dry weather, with Keylong, headquarters of the Lahaul-Spiti district, being the coldest with a minimum temperature of minus 15 degrees Celsius.
While Delhi is experiencing one of the coldest winters in years, biting coldwave persisted in north India as the mercury continued its downward trend and temperatures are likely to drop further in the coming days. In the plains, Fatehpur town in Rajasthan's Sikar district recorded season's lowest night temperature at minus 3 degrees Celsius.
Extreme cold conditions have taken over the whole of North India. Reportedly, most stations in the capital have recorded severe cold conditions continuously for 12 days. Delhi had also experienced cold wave spell in four years -1997, 1998, 2003, and 2014.
The weather department has predicted severe cold conditions in Delhi over the weekend. Meanwhile, authorities in Haryana have ordered the closure of all schools in the state in view of intense coldwave. In Haryana, day temperatures have been hovering between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius at most places, six to nine notches below the normal.
Extreme cold wave in north India is causing brain strokes to people. In Lucknow's King George's Medical University Trauma Centre alone, several cases related to brain strokes have surfaced in the past few days while two people have lost their lives.

Flight operations at the Srinagar airport remained suspended for the third consecutive day on Monday as all flights to and from the Kashmir Valley were cancelled due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog, officials said.
The high altitudes of the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh including Gulmarg experienced fresh snowfall, while the plains were lashed by light to moderate rains between November 21 and 23.
