Union Power Minister RK Singh on Sunday assured that the national capital is being supplied the required amount of electricity and it will continue. The statement by the union minister comes in the backdrop of an energy crisis looming over some states, including Delhi and Punjab, due to a combination of factors, such as excess rainfall hitting coal movement and imported coal-based power plants generating less than half of their capacity due to record-high rates.
"The panic ensued after GAIL sent informed Bawana gas power plant that it will stop supplying gas after two days because their contract was about to expire," the power minister said.
With reports that the situation of coal shortage in north India is likely to continue for a few more months, the state would have to study how long the powercuts would be continued.
Reviewing the power situation amid the shortage of coal supply on Saturday, the chief minister said all thermal plants are unable to generate a full capacity of power due to insufficient coal receipt.
The Union minister said that he has come to know that the Delhi Chief Minister has written a letter and he will give a statement on it only after taking detailed information. However, he added that the NTPC looks into it.
