Chinese envoy Xu Feihong acknowledged President Murmu's congratulatory message to Xi Jinping on the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Earlier, EAM S Jaishankar said China violated border agreements and continued tensions may cast a shadow over the relationship.
Xu was appointed as China's ambassador to India after an unusually long delay of 18 months following the departure of his predecessor Sun Weidong. Xu is expected to play a major role in the India-China border talks as both countries seek to resolve the prolonged military standoff in eastern Ladakh.
Announcing the new appointment, Zhao said now that the Afghan issue is in focus for the international community, China attaches high importance to communication and coordination with all relevant parties and will continue to play a constructive role for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
