As per the established practice of the Chief Justice naming the senior-most judge as his or her successor, Justice DY Chandrachud is expected to be appointed as the 50th Chief Justice of India.
According to a statement, SC Collegium in its meeting held on Monday approved proposal for elevation of following judicial officers as judges in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice Lalit will have a brief tenure of 74 days as the head of India's judiciary and would demit office on 8 November.
