The gunfight took place on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in a forest near Burgum village under Aranpur police station limits when a team of the District Reserve Guard was out on an anti-Naxal operation.
Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard and the 201st battalion of CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), an elite unit of the CRPF, were involved in the operation to ensure security for the ongoing road construction works in interior areas, he said.
Six ultras, including four women, were killed in the gun-battle with the special anti-Naxal Greyhounds unit of the Telangana Police, a senior police official posted in Bastar said.
The gunfight took place in the wee hours at a forest near Minpa village under Chintagufa police station limits.
A Naxal, carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head and wanted in nearly 25 criminal cases, killed in an encounter with security forces.
