Chandrayaan-2, India's second moon mission, is set to be launched in July this year. The lift-off has been scheduled during the launch window of July 9-16, 2019 with an expected moon landing on September 6, 2019.
India's lunar mission Chandrayaan 2, scheduled to launch next month, will carry NASA's laser instruments that allow scientists to make precise measurements of the distance to the Moon, according to the US space agency officials.
"We are all trying hard. Definitely, it should be possible to launch the mission in February," a senior ISRO official told PTI.
ISRO intends to launch Chandrayaan-2 sometime in January next year. The Mission will have an orbiter, lander and a rover.
ISRO will be launching two satellites within 30 days back-to-back for seven months. There are going to be 19 missions in total, Chandrayaan- 2 is scheduled for launch in January 2019.
The ISRO also aims to launch 19 missions up to March 2019. These missions include launch of four satellites to accomplish the Digital India programme by providing higher bandwidth for connectivity.
Chandrayaan-2 is one of the crucial launches for the space agency, particularly after Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan (Mars Orbiter Mission).
The experts had met recently and suggested the tests, following which the mission will now be launched in October, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman K Sivan said.
In Chandrayan-2, the country's second mission to the Moon, ISRO is planning to rover to explore the lunar surface.
It will be launched using a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV Mk II) which includes a lunar orbiter, lander and rover, all made in India.
Like Chandrayaan 1 mission, Chandrayaan 2 will also be an example of ISRO’s “frugal engineering” and it will cost a meagre $91 million.
