According to the officials, the building had a motor workshop and warehouse on the ground floor, a medical godown on the first floor and a cutlery warehouse on the second floor.
The police said several two-wheelers were damaged in the collapse, but there were no immediate reports of anyone being trapped under the debris.
Emergency services, including fire brigades and disaster response teams, have been dispatched to the scene. Rescue operations are in full swing to locate and save those feared trapped.
The five-storey building collapsed in Hazari Mollah Bagan in the Garden Reach area around midnight on Sunday. According to locals, who were the first responders, concrete chunks fell from the building before it collapsed.
