The government has approved the merger of Bharti Infratel and Indus Towers. The merger deal was signed on April 23 last year and was to be concluded by October 24. The companies extended the deal by two months to December 24, 2019, and another two months to February 24, in absence of DoT approval.
In April 2018, Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone Group had announced an agreement for the merger of Indus Towers and Bharti Infratel to create the largest mobile tower operator in the world outside China. It will have over 163,000 towers across 22 telecom service areas in India.
As on September 2017, Airtel's consolidated debt stood at Rs 91,480 crore.
